Our city and the good things about it
The City of Southaven is known for many things, but it is most noted for its excellent parks system. Snowden Grove Park is one of the nation’s largest youth baseball complex and hosts several major baseball tournaments from across the United States. Pretty amazing, right? Indeed. And, Snowden Grove is only one of 40 parks the city boasts, from Central Park, a 155-acre park featuring a 20-acre lake, walking trails, an 18-hole disk golf course and picnic areas, to the city’s many recreational sporting parks for soccer, football, softball, skateboarding and roller hockey. Check out some of the other outdoor spaces we’re so proud of here. Furthermore, Southaven is a short drive to many attractions in the Memphis area, as well. Check out some must-visit ones here.
The key to prolonged success is a promising next-generation. Southaven is part of the award winning DeSoto County School system. We take pride in partnering with the county to develop the future of our community each day through our outstanding schools. Through academic accomplishments and innovative teaching initiatives, DeSoto County Schools provides diverse academic curriculum, as well as opportunities to explore the arts. Mississippi was the first state in the nation to have computers in every classroom, a strategic investment in the education of our students.
Low crime rate
Located at the top of Mississippi, Southaven is a safe community that boasts a top 10 ranking in Mississippi’s safest cities. An average of 7.4 new families per day are finding DeSoto County a safe and friendly place to call home.
High school football
Southaven is an active community, and home to two area high schools, so it’s no surprise high school football is a favorite pastime. Most fall Friday nights are spent at the football field cheering on a local favorite. The community especially rallies behind the Odis McCord Classic, formally known as the Mayor’s Cup, where the Chargers of Southaven High School go head to head with the Jaguars of DeSoto Central. It is a game you don’t want to miss!
Southaven winters have cold nights and summertime here can be really hot, but the spring and fall are perfect festival weather here! The mild days in the spring and fall months are an ideal time to enjoy Southaven’s festivals, including the Mid-South Fair and our Annual Birthday Celebration, Springfest. Check out the calendar here to ensure you don’t miss out on any of the fun.
