Quality, affordability, safety and the most helpful people in the world – that’s the Southaven area. Quality describes our schools, health care and neighborhoods. The schools are among the top-rated in the state. Baptist memorial Hospital DeSoto is undergoing a $175 million expansion project. According the Cost of Living Index, Southaven and the metro Memphis area is the most affordable living in the nation. Many of our neighborhoods are new and most feature all-brick homes. Our crime index is below the state average and well below the national average. The completion of a new training facility will give us the highest fire safety rating available. A recent study demonstrated that people in our area are the most helpful in any city around the world.

Southaven is one of Mississippi's 20 certified retirement cities. That status was gained after Southaven passed a three-month intensive screening process conducted by Hometown Mississippi Retirement, the state's official retiree attraction program. The city was evaluated on criteria important to retirees - affordable cost of living, low taxes, low crime rate, quality medical care, recreation, educational and cultural opportunities, and most importantly, a warm, welcoming community.
The City recently completed the restoration of Snowden House, the hub of senior activities. A special program, Forever Young, coordinates senior activities and programs. For more information about the program contact ckelley@southaven.org
Active Living - Parks, sports, entertainment, movies, community theatre, golf, and more…there's plenty to do in Southaven. Twenty-two city parks provide areas for picnics, hiking, fishing and relaxation in your neighborhood.

Family Living - There's plenty to do when family comes to visit with community events such as Springfest, Music by the Lake, 4th July fireworks, Fishing Rodeo, Veterans Luncheon, Christmas Parade, and Breakfast with Santa. Since we're only minutes away from Memphis, it's just a short drive to the zoo, amusement park, Children's museum, botanical gardens and more.
For family worship, there are nearly 90 churches representing 25 different denominations. Our churches conduct special programs throughout the year and are very involved in the community.
